BTEC SPORT - Fitness test assignment 1

This video shows the wall throw test that tests how good someones co-ordination is by them throwing the ball at the target and catching it again, this tests the ability to catch a ball and throw it onto a target. an alternative test could be someone passing a football at a target. their level of co-ordination is determined by how many times they hit the target in 30 seconds. An advantage of this test is that it is very easy to set up and doesnt take long to do, a disadvantage is that it can only test hand co-ordination or feet co-ordination, not both at the same time.

This is the sit and reach test, the component of fitness this tests is flexibility, the way this test works is by the persons feet being flat on the bottom part and they bend forward as far as they can, their flexibility is determined by how far up the board they get. The main muscles this test use is the hamstrings and the abdominals this is because you are bending forward and stretching your hamstrings as much as you can. An advantage of this test is that it is quick to set up and tests an important muscle, a disadvantage of this test is that it only tests one muscle. To test full body flexibility you would need to do a range of tests.

This is the bench press, the component of fitness this test is testing is musclular strength, and the way we are measuring it is one rep max test. the main muscles using in this test are the pectorals and the triceps and the deltoids a little bit. The results of this test could be better depending on how good the persons technique is, this one is quite a good technique so he got good results. An advantage of this test is that it can be used to isolate the pectorals, a disadvantage is that this test only workk the pectorals and the triceps. Another one rep max test could be the seated shoulder press, this works the shoulders, chest and your biceps, this could be a better test because it works more muscles that the bench press.

This is the illinois agility run, it tests how agile somebody is this is how fast they can change direction, when running, the shorter the time they complete the run in the better. The main muscles used in this test are the quads and the calves. an advantage of this test is that it is easily set up and easy to do, a disadvantage of this test is that it isnt sport specific, an example of sports in which people need agility is football and rugby.

This is the 30 metre sprint test, it is being used to test the speed of the person running. the main muscles used in this test are the quads and the calves, this is because on our test they were pushing off the ground to turn and sprint, this means that the time would not have been as good as it could be if we just did a straight 30m sprint. an advantage of this test is that it is easily set up and can be completed by anyone, a disadvantage of this test is that it can be unaccurate if the person with the stop watch was bad at timing and it only tests speed over 30 metres.

This is the standing seargent jump, it has been used to test how much power the person has, in this test the main muscle being tested are the quads and the calves. the persons power is determined by how far they can jump, if the persons technique isnt good they can get a bad score, for example when they land they could fall backwards and get a bad score. an advantage of this test is that it can be easily set up and carried out, a disadvantage of this test is that i only tests the power in the persons legs, to test a full body different tests would need to be carried out.
